In this workshop, award-winning physical theatre artist and educator Jordan Rosin (Int’l: Butoh Medea, FringeNYC: Butoh Electra, Artistic Director Emeritus of the NYC-based physical theatre ensemble The Ume Group) leads participants on a journey of spiritual alchemy using the techniques of Japanese butoh dance. Incorporating key exercises from multiple schools of the form, Jordan draws on shamanic ritual and primitive theatrical approaches to explore the nature of movement as pre-text for deep self-investigation and the nature of the body as both object and story. Butoh is a creative philosophy and post-modern dance style originating from post-WWII Japan. Many approaches to butoh dance involve the embodiment & channeling of spirits; spirits of the living, of the dead, spirits of animals, plants, people, events. Ayurveda, the “science of life”, is an ancient & contemporary medicinal science developed in India. Chief among its interests are the digestive system as it relates to the overall health of every day people.
